At our museum you’ll find adventurous stories, fantastic objects and exhibitions for all ages. The new aquariums offer exciting underwater worlds with seaweed forests, fish and a living coral reef. The sea is our world. Welcome!

June 5 and 6 the museum is open 11.00–17.00.

The museum is closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May 1, Midsummer’s Eve and Midsummer’s Day.

Special opening hours during the anniversary weekend: On Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6, the museum is open from 11 am to 5 pm.

On public holidays when the museum is open and the day before public holidays, the museum closes at 5 pm.

The shop has the same opening hours as the museum.

Closed on following public holidays

Good Friday, Easter Monday, 1 May, 6 june, Midsummer’s Eve, Midsummer Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s day.

On public holidays where the museum is open and the day before public holidays, the City Museum closes at 5 pm.

With the Museum Card you can access our museums throughout the calendar year. The card is valid from 1 december 2023 to 29 december 2024.

The museum card is valid at The Gothenburg Museum of Art, the Röhsska Museum, the Museum of Gothenburg and the Maritime Museum and Aquarium. The museum card gives a 20% discount on exhibitions with an increased entrance fee. The museum card is a document of value and may only be used by one person.

The museum is cash-free.

By bike

Cycle lanes are found in large parts of Gothenburg’s inner city. See the Cycle Planner on the City of Gothenburg’s website. You can park the bicycle in front of the museum.

By car

The Maritime Museum and Aquarium is located next to Stigbergstorget in Majorna, on Karl Johansgatan 1-3.

By tram

The museum is easy to access by public transport. The nearest bus and tram stop is Stigbergstorget. Click here to plan your travel by public transport.

Pets are not allowed on the premises, with the exception of guide dogs.
